Bye Bye Ta-Ta’s, Hello Loose Skin

When I started my health journey in 2023, I weighed 185 pounds and had never touched a barbell — unless you count pushing a grocery cart with attitude. Fast forward 2.5 years to age 70, and my weight now varies between 120 and 125 pounds, I deadlift 150, bench 75, and apparently misplaced my Ta-Ta’s somewhere along the way.

No one warns you about this part.

Everyone talks about “you’ll feel amazing!” and “your energy will soar!”

All true.

But no one takes you aside and quietly says, “By the way… you will no longer have boobs and you will have a lot of loose skin.”

That little detail is conveniently left out of the transformation photos.

In my case, the loose skin mostly decided to set up camp around my stomach. Apparently, when 60+ pounds leave the building, the skin doesn’t immediately get the memo. It hangs around like, “Are we sure this isn’t temporary?”

It’s soft. It wrinkles. It folds in ways that were not discussed in any fitness brochure. And when I plank, there’s… participation. Let’s leave it at that.

And honestly? I’ve decided I’m okay with it.

Because here’s what that loose skin represents:

  • 60+ pounds of discipline
  • Hundreds of workouts
  • Walks that turned into hikes
  • Hikes that turned into half marathons
  • A 70-year-old woman deadlifting 150 pounds

That skin is proof I did something hard.

Yes, my stomach isn’t magazine flat. Yes, bras fit differently now. Yes, gravity and I are no longer on speaking terms. But I can carry my own luggage. I can out-hike women half my age. I can look at a barbell and think, “Let’s go.”

At 70 years old, I am in the best shape of my adult life.

Loose skin? It’s just the wrapping paper from the gift I gave myself.

So bye bye, Ta-Ta’s. Hello loose skin. You’re staying.

Because under all of it is a strong, capable, slightly saggy, but very powerful woman — and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

If you’re thinking about starting your own journey, don’t wait for perfect. Don’t wait for tight. Start for strong.

The rest? It’s just extra fabric.

Yup, that’s a roll of loose skin around that belly!
